Make the most of York Beach
Best Things to Do in York Beach, Maine
York Beach is easy to do well without overplanning. Spend the morning on Long Sands, wander Short Sands for shops and saltwater taffy, make time for the Nubble, and leave room for a seafood lunch before sunset pulls you back to the beach.
Start with the shoreline. Walk Long Sands in the morning, visit Nubble Lighthouse when the light is clear, and leave time for an unhurried meal, ice cream, or a browse through York Beach shops. Families can keep the day simple with beach time and nearby attractions; couples can make it a coastal loop through York Harbor, Cape Neddick, and Ogunquit. The best days here are usually not complicated: one anchor activity, one good meal, one stretch of ocean, and enough unscheduled time to enjoy being away.
Long Sands Beach
The easiest thing to do from the Anchorage Inn is also the reason many guests come back: walk across to Long Sands Beach. Swim, read, search for shells, watch surfers, or take the long beach walk at low tide.
Nubble Lighthouse
Cape Neddick’s Nubble Lighthouse is the postcard stop: quick to reach, easy to photograph, and worth seeing in every season. Go early or near sunset for the best light and a quieter visit.
York Village & York Harbor
Balance beach time with a slower loop through York Village and York Harbor. It is a good choice for historic homes, small shops, harbor views, and a meal away from the busier beach stretch.
Ogunquit Day Trip
When you want a little more movement, drive south to Ogunquit for the Marginal Way coastal walk, Perkins Cove, galleries, restaurants, and one of Maine’s most walkable coastal village experiences.
