An Adventure on the Coast

Why a Getaway in York Beach

Fall is when locals quietly claim York Beach back. The beaches empty out, the light turns golden, and the pace finally slows. Here is what makes an fall stay worth the drive.

  • Walk Long Sands Beach with room to breathe, directly across the street from the inn
  • Catch peak foliage on Mount Agamenticus, a short drive inland with views from the ocean to the White Mountains
  • Time your visit around Harvestfest at Short Sands on October 17, a free day of local food, crafts, and live music just minutes away
  • Stay into late November for the Festival of Lights, when the Nubble Lighthouse lights up for the season, and Anchorage Inn hosts the celebration on Long Beach Ave.
  • Trade the summer rush for quiet evenings, easy dinners, and a room steps from the water

How to Spend a Weekend in York Beach

Morning Walk

7:30 AM

Start slow with coffee and a walk along Long Sands, right across from the inn. In fall, you often have long stretches of sand to yourself.

Foliage on Mount Agamenticus

Late Morning

Drive up Mount Agamenticus for the fall color and 360-degree views from the ocean to the White Mountains, plus a network of trails if you want to stretch your legs.

The Nubble Lighthouse

Midday

Head out to Sohier Park for a close look at the Nubble, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world, perched just offshore at Cape Neddick Point.

York Beach Village

Afternoon

Wander the village shops and pick up saltwater taffy at The Goldenrod. If you are here on October 17, spend the day at Harvestfest just up the road at Short Sands.

Dinner for Two at Sun and Surf

Evening

The heart of your stay. Settle in for dinner for two at Sun and Surf, included with your package: a relaxed coastal dinner with nowhere else to be.

One More Morning on the Coast

Next Morning

No checkout scramble on a two-night stay. Take one more beach walk, or drive up to Perkins Cove in Ogunquit before you head home.
