Most guests keep it simple: arrive by car, park once, and walk to the beach whenever they want. Long Sands is across the street, Short Sands is a short drive, and nearby lighthouse stops, restaurants, and coastal towns are easiest to reach with your own vehicle.
Most guests use a mix of walking, driving, and short rides. Walk when you are staying close to Long Sands. Drive when you are heading to Nubble Lighthouse, York Harbor, Short Sands, Ogunquit, Kittery, or Portsmouth. In the busiest summer weeks, give yourself extra time for parking and traffic near the beaches. If you prefer not to drive at night, plan dinner close by or arrange a ride ahead of time.
Walk From The Inn
For beach time, sunrise walks, and simple days by the water, walking is the best option. The Anchorage Inn puts Long Sands Beach and nearby coastal views right at your doorstep.
Drive For Coastal Loops
A car is helpful for Nubble Lighthouse, York Harbor, Short Sands, Mount Agamenticus, Ogunquit, Kittery, and Portsmouth. Plan parking before you go during peak summer days.
Stroll Nearby
Quiet-season and shoulder-season days are especially good for longer strolls along the coast. In peak traffic, stay alert and choose lower-stress routes. We love walking across Wiggly Bridge and through Steedman Woods and looping back to connect to the Fisherman's Walk along the harbor. Our town does not have bike paths so we cannot safely recommend this option.
Rideshare With A Plan
Rideshare options are limited and taxi options can be useful, but availability may vary by season and time of day. There are also local taxis, but they need to be called in advance so please see the front desk for contact information. If you have a dinner reservation or event, arrange transportation early.
